The ball of the foot is the point where the metatarsal bones join with phalange bones of the toes; this area of the foot is subject to high loads during walking, running, jumping and even when simply walking in high heel shoes
Pain in this area is broadly termed metatarsalgia but this is not a diagnosis in itself, it purely identifies that pain is being experienced in the area of the metatarsals.
