The toes are the digits of our feet

Each toe consists of three bones called phalanges and three joints. The big toe, also known as the hallux, has only two larger bones and 2 joints. Deformities can develop in the toes from a range of causes including incorrect fitting footwear, poor foot posture and biomechanics such as flat feet or high arched feet. Problems can also arise in the toe joints as a result of rheumatological conditions like arthritis and gout. Common conditions seen by our podiatrists are bunions (hallux valgus) gout, hammer and claw toes and painful toe joints as a result of poor foot mechanics and arthritic changes.
